Throughout our history, America has welcomed migrants from all nations to its shores,
and Americans have welcomed migrants for their unique contributions to our society and their
cultural diversity. However, our immigration system is broken. We can no longer ensure
Americans are safe, and the lack of Federal enforcement has only made the situation in the
border states worse. Our laws must be enforced, and our border must be made secure.
The Covid-19 pandemic crushed the American economy when it was at its strongest.
Nationally, we had the lowest unemployment rate since 1969, including the lowest rate of
African American and Hispanic unemployment ever recorded. That all ended when forced
lockdowns led to layoffs and the closures of small businesses. The government had a
responsibility to assist Americans that were most affected by these lockdowns and layoffs but
instead chose to provide a safety net to big businesses so they could keep their doors open rather
than helping Americans keep their families fed and roofs over their heads. This did little but
provide short-term relief while increasing our federal deficit. Currently, our debt is greater than
our GDP, and if current policies remain in effect our debt will be double our GDP by 2050. We
must end deficit spending, reduce our national debt, and return to fiscally conservative policies if
we want our country to remain economically viable.
Critical Race Theory is by nature Marxist and discriminatory. Our nation has long
struggled with racial equality, and the struggle to end discriminatory practices and racist
legislation has been a difficult one, but the fight for true equality is not aided by advocates for
CRT who believe discrimination against white Americans in favor of policies that benefit
minorities. Discrimination in the name of equity against any American is not anti-racist, it is the very definition of racism and is outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. While it is important
to learn from our nation’s past, we cannot build positive race relations through any
discriminatory practices in any form, at the local, state, or federal level.
Congress has, for too long, acted as a national legislature, exceeding its Constitutionally
defined powers to encroach on the powers reserved to the states and to the people. Examples
include voting laws, health care, and education. The balance of power has tipped so far in favor
of the federal government the various departments created by Congress allow the federal
government to dictate the curriculum we teach our children, determine a federal minimum wage
without regard for the differing cost of living standards, and limits the use of public lands within
state borders. Uncontrolled federal oversight is oppressive, inefficient, expensive, and can
become tyrannical. The federal government must move to return to its Constitutionally mandated
scope and return the balance of power to its original intent: a federalist system where states
partner with Washington D.C. to govern, not subjects to the federal government.
